Exploring how we become who we are, how we survive what life throws at us, and how we find our way forward.
Hey, I'm Loretta.
Therapist, Black-culture vulture, podcast devourer, current affairs keeper-upper.
Why I do this work? Life lifed me, too!
Like many people, I've experienced periods of loss, heartbreak, uncertainty, disappointment and change that left me questioning myself, my direction and what came next. Coaching and therapy helped me make sense of those experiences and, ultimately, led me to this work.
How I think about wellbeing
I don't believe our struggles exist in isolation from the lives we live.
We are shaped by our relationships, families, communities, cultures, workplaces and the wider world around us. Sometimes what looks like a personal struggle is also connected to questions of identity, belonging, difference, loss or change.
What interests me
I'm endlessly curious about people. How we become who we are, how we survive what life throws at us, and how we find our way forward.
I'm particularly interested in:
- Neurodivergence
- Race and racialisation
- Migration and belonging
- Gender
- Marginalisation
- Identity and difference
These interests inform my work, but I welcome clients from all backgrounds and walks of life.
The questions that keep me curious
Over the years I've come to believe that many people are not only looking for relief from distress. They're also trying to answer deeper questions:
- Who am I?
- Where do I belong?
- What matters to me?
- How do I live a life that feels like mine?
These are the kinds of questions that continue to interest me, both personally and professionally.
Why Dawnsong?
Dawnsong grew from a belief that people need spaces where they can think deeply, feel honestly and reconnect with themselves.
Today that takes the form of psychotherapy and coaching. In time, it will grow to include supervision, groups and community-based work.
Whatever form it takes, the heart of Dawnsong remains the same: creating opportunities for reflection, growth, connection and belonging.
